  1. The Superintendent (SOP) and Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) are entitled to a salute as a matter of courtesy and procedure.

  2. If the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent of Prisons enters any room or area where Officers are assembled, the    first person to see any of the above mentioned Officers must call everybody to attention by saying, “Room Shun”, or  “Officers Shun”, at that point everybody must come to attention and the most senior Officer if wearing Head gear must salute.

  3. No officer wearing plain clothes with civilian hat shall salute an officer.  A slight bow with hat off or an eyes right or  left or a word of mouth “Good Morning” would be appropriate.

  4. The most senior officer must always walk to the right of the junior officer especially to facilitate saluting.

  5. If any Officer is approached by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent of Prisons, that officer should immediately  come to attention, salute and await further instructions.

  6. If any officer is walking past the SOP or ASP in any area of the Prison compound, or any place off the compound, once that officer is wearing uniform, he/she shall salute unless he/she is given other instructions by SOP or ASP.

  7. If, for example, the SOP is in a classroom conducting a class or is in an office and the ASP walks in, no one shall call the    room or office to attention because the SOP is senior to the ASP.  If it is vice versa then the first person to see the SOP enter shall call the room or office to attention, the ASP will salute.

  8. No Prison Officer shall salute any plain clothes officer of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force who are    attached to C.I.D, Special Branch, Drug Squad, or any other plain clothes Department, as your action may give away their  position.

  9. Persons holding the following offices are entitled to a salute:

    • Governor General
    • Prime Minister
    • Judges
    • Magistrates
    • Government Ministers and Senators
    • Commissioner of Police
    • Deputy and Assistant Commissioner of Police
    • Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of Police
    • Attorney General
    • Justices of the Peace
    • Head of Auxiliary Force
    • Members of Clergy
