Opening Ceremony – Launch of Activities to commemorate the 40th Anniversary since the Last Eruption of the La Soufriere Volcano - April 12, 2019, at the Car Park next to Postal Corporation Building, Kingstown, Saint Vincent, Friday 12th April, 2019, at 10:30 a.m.

Key note speaker is Dr. Richard Robertson – Director, University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC).

Welcome and Remarks would be done by - Mr. Kenson Stoddard – Deputy Director, National Emergency Management Organisation.

Additional Information:
April 13, 2019, will mark 40 years since the last eruption of La Soufriere Volcano. To commemorate this 40th Anniversary, the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) will conduct one month of activities during the period April 11 - May 11, 2019, focusing on community preparedness for a volcanic eruption and sensitizing the public about the 'Volcanic Emergency Evacuation’ aspect of the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Component of the Trade winds Exercise 2019.

These activities will be conducted in collaboration with the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC) and with support from the Soufriere Monitoring Unit (SMU), the Forestry Division, the Ministry of Health etc, the Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force Trade winds Secretariat and the UWI SRC Volcano Ready Communities Project SVG.

As part of the month of activities, the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) and the UWI-SRC will conduct education and outreach activities in schools and communities in the red volcano hazard zone.

On Friday April 12, 2019, the National Emergency Management Organisation will host an exhibition at the Car Park next to the Postal Corporation Building in Kingstown between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

During the exhibition there will be an opening ceremony which will commence at 10:30 a.m. to formally launch the month of Volcano Awareness Activities and to sensitize the public on the 'Volcanic Emergency Evacuation’ aspect of the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Component of the Trade winds Exercise 2019.
