The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO), is in the process of developing National Protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for tsunami warnings for St. Vincent and the Grenadines. To this end it is hosting a national consultation to review the draft protocols and standard operating procedures on 23rd and 24th June 2014.

The objectives of the consultation are:

  • To familiarise national stakeholders with the Tsunami Protocol Development Process
  • To advance the development of the St Vincent & the Grenadines’ Tsunami Protocol and Standard Operating Procedures; and to identify resources necessary to ensure appropriate preparedness measures for a tsunami


According to Director of NEMO, Mr. Howie Prince, the expected outcomes of this consultation are:

  • To have an increased awareness among national stakeholders of the Tsunami Protocol Development Process.
  • To have a completed Draft St Vincent & the Grenadine’s Tsunami Protocol and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • To make recommendations for the enhancement of tsunami readiness in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and to identify the resources necessary for an appropriate preparedness program for  response to tsunamis.

The consultation takes place at NEMO’s Conference Room. The opening ceremony commenced at 9:00 a.m.

This National Consultation to review the Draft Tsunami Protocol and Standard Operating Procedures is being held in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Management Agency (CDEMA), through funding from UKaid, the Canadian Government, the Australian Government (AusAID) and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
