Results from a study on Seismic Activity at the La Soufriere Volcano were examined at a workshop here.
The workshop was spearheaded by the National Emergency Management Organisation, NEMO, as part of Strengthening Resilience in Volcanic Areas STREVA Project.
In presenting the findings, Leader of the STREVA Project, Ms. Jennt Barclay said that the objective is to learn from past eruptions at the La Soufriere Volcano, so as to build a more resilient future.
She also said that one of the main findings by the researchers was the disruptive influence of volcanic ash on community livelihoods during the volcanic activity.
Ms. Barclay further stated that the information from the study will be used to better understand how persons can prepare themselves for future volcanic eruptions.
Meanwhile, Director of the Seismic Unit, Dr. Richard Robertson has issued a strong appeal for persons to desist from tampering with the equipment at the La Soufriere Volcano.
He noted that the equipment is critical in the monitoring of volcanic activity are constantly being vandalized and stolen, and when the equipment is tampered with or destroyed the entire country is at risk.
