On Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th October, the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO), in collaboration with the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Red Cross Society, the French Red Cross and the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), will host a training workshop on how to use the Caribbean Dewetra Platform, which is a web-based Geographic Information System Tool.

The main objectives of the workshop are:

  • To expose participants to the tools and products available on the Dewetra Platform and how they can be used to support impact-forecasting and scenario-based disaster management.
  • To provide National Disaster Management Agencies with additional technical support to strengthen their planning and operations.

Twenty-five persons from various Governmental and Non-Governmental Organisations involved in the collection, analysis and application of data to improve early warning systems will participate in this workshop.

This training is a part of the Community Resilience and Institutional Preparedness in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the Lesser Antilles Facing Natural Hazards Project supported by the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO), under the Disaster Preparedness Program (DIPECHO X) 2015-2016 Action Plan.

The Caribbean Dewetra Platform Training Workshop will be held at NEMO’s Conference Room, Old Montrose beginning at 8:30 a.m. each day.
