The National Emergency Management Organisation, (NEMO), is continuing its assessment of the damage caused by extensive flooding and landslides, which occurred as this country was impacted by a trough system.

Ms. Michelle Forbes, Acting Director said that this country recorded close to seven inches of rain during the passage of the system.  She said that there were reports of at least fifty-two landslides occurring as a result of the severe weather, and added that the system affected mainly the south and south-west of the mainland and Paget Farm in Bequia.

She further stated that some persons were still in emergency shelters, but most of them were expected to be back in their homes by the end of the day (10th November), and noted that the E.T. Joshua Airport, which was affected by flooding had resumed operations.

The local Met Office said that the surface trough is still affecting the country, and weather conditions would be mostly cloudy with showers, periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms. Residents across the country are being urged to continue to exercise caution.

Schools across the country also resumed classes, with the exception of the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia, the Buccament Seventh Day Adventist and the Calliaqua Anglican Pre-school.
