At 11:00am today, Tropical Storm Irma was upgraded to a Category 2 Hurricane. Hurricane Irma was centred near 16.9°N...33.8°W or 1845 miles East of the Leeward Islands.

The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) continues to monitor the approach of Hurricane Irma and wishes to remind the public that this is the official peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.The 2017 hurricane season is forecasted to be very active and has already seen several named storms and rainfall events.

"Irma" is moving west-north west at 10 mph, minimum pressure is 979 mb and maximum sustained winds are 100 mph.

"Irma" poses no immediate threat to land. However, given its forecasted tract, all residents are asked to closely monitor the approach of this system.


The National Emergency Management Organisation will continue to provide updates from the Meteorological Services on Hurricane Irma and encourage all to the prepared during this very active season.
