The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) says it is continuing to conduct damage assessments across the country, following the passage of a tropical wave over the weekend.
Director of NEMO, Michelle Forbes said that the heavy rains which started on Friday, continued into Saturday and Sunday and there were many reports of flooding and landslides and a number of homes damaged.
The NEMO Director stated "Most of the homes were effected where we have a lot of landslides on roads along the east coast and also in the interior. We had more rains falling along the southern part of the islands and the Grenadines . We have had reports of flooding drainage meaning localized flooding of drains in Bequia, Union Island, in particular and in and around Kingstown. We had some flooding in Calliaqua, where about two, three homes were affected, we would have visited those homes already yesterday, and give some assistance and we continue doing assessment today".
"Most of the reports received so far have been landslides occurring in and around homes, landslides on the roads which are being dealt with by BRAGSA and a few retaining walls have also collapsed. So we continue to receive reports today and we expect to get a few more reports today, and we have already started visiting some of these areas that have been impacted and continue to do the assessment into tomorrow. "
Forbes says most of the reports they have received are in relation to landslides and the assessment work is continuing.
